... Produced by Steve Haggard, Starr Struck seems
to be more of a vehicle for country music
than rockabilly in the purist sense.
Frank "Andy" Starrs' vocals are still good and actually
remind me a bit of Jerry Lee Lewis during his country days.
...a must for diehard collecters.
The Haywoods do a great job with their countrified-
rockabilly version of Andy Starr's "Rockin Rollin Stone"
and are even better on "I want a Gal".
Gail & the Tricksters do a superb job on
"Tom Cat Blues", a sultry jazzy number.

I really dig Gail's "Suffered
Enough" tune and we're charting, that one
along with "1000 Miles Away"
for the Haywoods and "Dickson Street Blues" for Frank Starr. Keep
the great music coming.

... The CD opens up with a
doozy of a track from the Haywoods
called "I Want a Gal." Surprisingly,
I was thoroughly impressed
by the artist's energy and
overall sound on the track. Even more,
I can see a common thread
running through the entire CD.
All the groups mentioned that
perform on the disc have a
heavy sound in the rock-a-billy
category.
It was like Brian Setzer and
the Stray Cats got back
together for a few rounds.
The only difference would be
that it's a little more bluesy
than your typical swing dance
music. Actually, it's a lot
more bluesy, but equally as good.
I was really impressed by
the vocal work done by Gail.
She has one hell of a voice
that seemed to reverberate
around the room and fill it
up with that sweet blues sound
of old.It was really nice.
But for the most part all three
bands have a great thing going
and they should keep it up.
I'm not a fan of comp CDs
but I thought this one was
pretty good. Go check this
one out.

Been hearing the CD from you,
I really love it !
You know, all the rockabilly
stuff that I hear these days...
(this CD) is different from
most so-called "rockabilly" bands,
maybe they're just too punky
or something, but you stick
to the roots of music which
is great !

I have received "Starr Struck."
I think two of Frank's performances
are very strong. Actually,
I found myself delightfully surprised
more by the Haywoods tracks
and Gail & The Tricksters cuts.
Good feel to everything,
I wish all new rockabilly
contained this type of unpretentious sass.
You were smart to pair Gail
with Frank on "Round & Round."

Hi Katz,
What a great surprise I got
when I opened your package.
(The Starr Struck CD) - I
cant thank you enough for sending it to me.
The CD is great, and what
a good voice Frank Starr still has.
(You should re-record all
this old stuff.)
...The trax I will play at
my hop are all the Haywood's trax,
"BarkinUp The Wrong Tree"
by Gail & Tricksters,
"Round & Round" by Frank
Starr & Gail Lloyd, and
"Dickson Street Blues" by
the GREAT Frank Andy Starr...
Yet again, thanks a million
for the CD.
Yours Greatfully,
